A NEW THING

Monthly Devotional

The Amplified Bible says, “Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

God never does the “old thing”—He always does a “new thing”—a fresh, new thing! Even if you think that you have seen it before, when God does it, it will be a new thing. You cannot afford to take God for granted. When you decide that you have seen everything that there is to see, if you think that you know everything that there is to know, you have just missed the boat.

No matter what wonderful things you have seen God do, don’t think that you have seen it all. People get religious because they get stuck on the last thing that God did in their life and they close themselves off to any new thing that God desires to do. That is why you need to have the heart of a child. You need to be open and even hungry for new things—the things that God has planned for you—even though they may be things you have never seen before.

Some people go over in the other side of the ditch—they are so eager for a new thing that they open themselves up for things that are so “new” that they are not even in line with the Word of God. The difference between the “new” that is of God, and the “new” that has nothing to do with God, is the condition of your heart.

If you are prideful, competitive or controlling, you will look for something new in the wrong place and for the wrong reason and you will end up in deception. The devil loves to twist and misrepresent the Word in order to deceive people.

Even though God’s Word is always the same—yesterday, today and tomorrow—and even though He never changes—as we press into the Word with humility and hunger, we will receive fresh insight and fresh revelation of this Word.

God has a new thing for you in this New Year. Don’t let the devil lie to you and tell you that “this is it, this is all—there is nothing else and nothing better.” You have to believe God and His Word above all else. If you ask the Lord—He will tell you that He only has a new thing and an awesome thing planned for you!

God knows what you need. You must humble your heart and open yourself up to the Spirit of God so that He can have His way in your life. He will touch you in a fresh and a new way every new day! He will do a new thing in your life! He will make a way in your wilderness and He will open up rivers in your desert!
