From The Heart

Publish date: 01/26/2014

"Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. John 12:27 NKJV

Jesus came for this purpose:

1. To save from sins:

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.  Matthew 1:21NKJV

2. To be King of the Jews:

Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." John 18:37 NKJV

3. To fulfill the law:

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.  Matthew 5:17 NKJV

4. To call sinners to repentance:

But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."  Matthew 9:13 NKJV

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.  Luke 5:32 NKJV

5. To bring division:

Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.  35 For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; 36 and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' Matthew 10:34-36 NKJV

6. To give rest:

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."  Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

7. To save from destruction:

For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them.  Luke 9:56a NKJV

8. To give His life for the church:

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.  Ephesians 5:25 NKJV

9. To redeem from iniquity:

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.  Titus 2:14 KJV

10. To seek and save the lost:

For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.  Luke 19:10 NKJV

11. To make a New Covenant:

For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.  Matthew 26:28 NKJV

But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.  Hebrews 8:6 NKJV

And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.  Hebrews 9:15NKJV

12. To put away sin:

He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.  Hebrews 9:26 NKJV

13. To suffer for people:

Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. John 12:27 NKJV

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.  1 Peter 3:18 NKJV

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.  1 Peter 4:1-2 NKJV

14. To ransom (redeem) people:

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.  Matthew 20:28NKJV

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.  1 Timothy 2:5-6 NKJV

15. To preach and heal:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.  Luke 4:18-19 KJV

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.  Acts 10:38 NKJV

But He said to them, "Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth." 39 And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.  Mark 1:38-39 NKJV

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.  Matthew 4:23-24 NKJV
