Foundation Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 8:1-20
And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth. 18 But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:17-18 AMPC
1. A Good Land.
a. Deuteronomy 8:7
b. From the moment the Lord appeared to Moses in the burning bush, He told them repeatedly of the good land He had prepared for them.
c. He delivered them supernaturally from their bondage in Egypt, through the Red Sea, and provided for them—manna, water, clothing and shoes that never wore out.
d. God was kind to them even though they whined and complained.
e. The length of time that they spent in the wilderness was because of their choices—their unbelief.
f. If you find yourself in a tough situation, do not blame or accuse God.
g. Otherwise, a temporary setback could become a permanent situation.
h. Realize that it is His grace sustaining you now and His hand that will lead you out—if you trust and obey Him.
i. Carnal-minded people tend to blame God for their problems and congratulate themselves on their successes.
j. When they are to blame for their mess, and it is by the grace of God that they have any blessing at all.
2. Preparation for the Blessing.
a. Deuteronomy 8:1
b. Do what He says and obey His commands.
c. That you may live—long life; abundant life.
d. Multiplication and increase.
e. Possess the land.
f. Deuteronomy 8:2
g. Earnestly remember how the Lord has led you and taken care of you.
h. Humble yourself before the Lord.
i. Otherwise, your circumstances might be what humbles you.
j. It is through tests and trials and challenges that we learn and grow.
k. Man does not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
l. God chastened them, disciplined and instructed them, as a Father, for their good and benefit.
m. Proverbs 22:4 KJV –– By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.
n. Receive His instruction, obey His commands; walk in His ways; reverentially serve Him.
o. This is the preparation for the blessing.
3. Keep Your Eyes on the Source.
a. When you have eaten and are full.
b. When you have built beautiful houses and live in them.
c. When your herds and flocks multiply.
d. When your silver and gold, and all you have, are multiplied.
e. Bless God and give Him the glory.
f. Do not forget Him.
g. Do not shift your focus from His hand to your hand.
h. Do not forget that every blessing came from His hand.
i. Proverbs 3:7 AMPC –– *Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord… *
j. Independence from God, self-sufficiency, and self-confidence are a trap.
k. Do not start thinking—even a little bit—that the blessing came by your hand—by your intelligence or your effort.
l. Yes, your hands did the work, but God is the One Who blesses your hands.
m. He is the One imparting the wisdom and showing you favor.
n. He is the One Who increases and multiplies you.
4. Ways People Forget God.
a. By neglecting His commandments (vs 11).
b. By becoming comfortable and self-satisfied (vs 12).
c. By becoming absorbed with possessions and material things (vs 12).
d. By allowing prosperity to lift up their heart (vs 13-14).
e. By forgetting where God brought them from (vs 14).
f. By forgetting God’s supernatural provision and protection (vs 15-16).
g. By taking personal credit for what God enabled them to accomplish (vs 17).
h. By forgetting that God gave them the ability to prosper (vs 18).
i. By forgetting God’s covenant and the purpose of His blessing (vs 18).
j. By allowing other things to take God’s place (vs 19).
k. By refusing to obey His voice (vs 20).
5. Acknowledge Him.
a. Proverbs 3:6 AMPC –– In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
b. Acknowledge the Lord in every area of your life.
c. In your own heart and mind, and publicly.
d. Begin, continue, and complete every work, purpose, and plan with Him.
e. Recognize Him as the Source of your ability, opportunities, increase, and prosperity.
f. Give Him the credit for your success.
g. Do not be ashamed of Him before men; before the world.
6. Honor the Lord.
a. Honor the Lord with your mouth and your heart and your money.
b. Bless the Lord—thank Him and worship and praise Him—for all the good He has given you and the good He has done to and for you.
c. Honor the Lord with your substance.
d. Proverbs 3:9-10 AMPC –– Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income; 10 So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine.
e. If you will faithfully do these things—God, Who gives you the power to get wealth—will establish His covenant with you, keep His promises to you, and bless you every day of your long and fruitful life.
7. The Key.
a. The key to long-term success.
b. Work and give.
c. Know where it all comes from.
d. Know Whom you serve.
e. Never take Him or His blessings for granted.
