Blessings For Obedience

Foundation Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 28
1. Six Conditions of Blessing.
a. Listen diligently to the voice of the Lord (Deut. 28:1-2,9,13,15).
b. Meaning: To give heed; to hear or listen with attention or interest; listen with understanding; to consent, agree; to yield to; to obey, be obedient.
c. Watchfully observe to do and keep all His commandments (Deut. 28:1,13,15).
d. Meaning: To observe; to keep, to guard; to give heed.
e. Being watchful in the sense of protecting and guarding.
f. Walk in His ways (Deut. 28:9).
g. Be like your Father; follow His example; do what He does and do what He is telling you to do.
h. Do not turn aside from any of His words, to the right or left (Deut. 28:13,14).
i. Do not compromise, make excuses for compromise, neglect, or disobey His words.
j. Do not go after other gods to serve them (Deut. 28:14).
k. The Lord must be first in your heart and in your priorities.
l. You cannot serve God and mammon (Matt. 6:24).
m. Look to Him as your only source and supply and honor Him always.
n. Philippians 4:19 KJV –– But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
o. Our tithes and offerings keep our eyes looking upward instead of outward.
p. Show gratitude.
q. Blessings are multiplied and extended when gratitude is practiced.
r. Cursing and lack follow in gratitude and forgetfulness toward God.
s. Deuteronomy 28:47 AMPC –– Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness of [mind and] heart [in gratitude] for the abundance of all [with which He had blessed you].
t. Gratitude for God’s deliverance, protection, and provision should motivate faithful obedience.
2. Bring to God.
a. First fruits (Deut. 26:1-11).
b. They were commanded to bring their first fruits–the first of all the produce of the soil which they harvested from the land that God gave them.
c. Tithe (Deut. 26:12-15).
d. At harvest time, they were commanded to tithe of all the increase of the land and their flocks and herds.
e. Deuteronomy 14:22-23 AMPC –– You shall surely tithe all the yield of your seed produced by your field each year. …that you may learn [reverently] to fear the Lord your God always.
f. Freewill offerings (Deut. 16:10).
g. Give willingly—in proportion to how much God has blessed you.
3. Rejoice.
a. Deuteronomy 16:11 KJV –– And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God…
b. No matter what they brought—first fruits, tithes, or freewill offerings—they were commanded to bring them with joy and rejoicing; celebrating the goodness of God toward them, His deliverance from all bondage, and His bountiful provision.
c. Rejoice and celebrate God’s goodness.
d. Rejoice together—celebrate God’s blessing as a community, with family and friends and those who work with us in the Kingdom.
e. Deuteronomy 26:11 KJV –– And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the Lord thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
4. Blessings for Obedience.
a. God will set you on high above all the other nations of the earth and all these blessings shall come on you and overtake you (Deut. 28:1-2).
b. You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field (Deut. 28:3).
c. You will have offspring—who are healthy and blessed (Deut. 28:4).
d. Your crops will be blessed.
e. Your cattle and your flocks will increase.
f. Your baskets and storehouses will be full of good things (Deut. 28:5,8).
g. You will be blessed in all that you undertake (Deut. 28:6,8).
h. You will have complete victory over all your enemies (Deut. 28:7).
i. Your land will be abundantly fertile and fruitful (Deut. 28:8).
j. You will be established as a people holy to God and belonging to Him (Deut. 28:9).
k. You will be a witness and an example to all people on earth and they will be afraid of you (Deut. 28:10).
l. You will be the owner of land and property (Deut. 28:11).
m. You will have a surplus and be prosperous: in goods, children, livestock, and crops.
n. The Lord will open to you His good treasury (Deut. 28:12).
o. The heavens will give you rain in due season in all your land.
p. The Lord will bless all the work of your hands.
q. You will be prosperous enough to lend, and you will not need to borrow.
5. Favor and Promotion.
a. The Lord shall make you the head and not the tail (Deut. 28:13).
b. The head—prominent, preeminent, the chief—leading, advancing, influencing.
c. To be the head means to lead rather than merely follow, to advance rather than continually fall behind.
d. It speaks of God giving His obedient people influence, strength, success, and the ability to prosper in what He has called them to do.
e. You shall be above and not beneath.
f. Above—overcoming rather than being overcome.
g. To be above speaks of being lifted up, established, and victorious, rather than continually being oppressed, defeated, or brought low.
6. We Are Blessed.
a. We are blessed because we serve the Lord our God with joyfulness of mind and heart, in gratitude for the abundance of all with which He has blessed us.
b. We do not give to God out of obligation—we give out of commitment.
c. We give out of an intelligent understanding of Who He is and what He has done for us.
d. We give out of gratitude for what He has already done, and expectation of His future faithfulness.
e. So, remember what God has done.
f. Rejoice in His goodness.
g. Give according to His blessing.
h. Faithfully obey His Word.
