Sermon song: The Evangelist Is Sent – The Evangelist – Part Thirteen
Foundation Scriptures:
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:14-15 KJV
1. The Evangelist Is Sent.
a. Evangelists are not wanderers.
b. They are sent ones.
c. They do not move by opportunities alone; they move by instruction.
d. Geography matters in the plan of God, and the evangelist is dispatched according to Heaven’s assignment, not personal preference.
e. Romans 10:15 KJV –– And how shall they preach, except they be sent?
f. Sending is the difference between motion and mission.
2. God Thinks in Cities, Regions, and Nations.
a. God’s redemptive strategy has always been territorial.
b. Psalms 2:8 KJV –– Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
c. Cities matter because people gather there.
d. When cities are shaken, regions are affected.
e. When regions shift, nations feel the impact.
f. The evangelist understands this and preaches with geographic purpose.
3. Jesus Was Sent Intentionally.
a. Jesus did not preach randomly.
b. Luke 4:43 KJV –– And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
c. The evangelist follows this model: sent with clarity, urgency, and obedience.
4. Being Sent Requires Obedience Over Preference.
a. God often sends evangelists where they would not choose to go.
b. Jonah 1:2 KJV –– Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
c. Some cities resist.
d. Some regions oppose.
e. Some nations persecute.
f. But resistance does not negate assignment; it confirms importance.
5. Territorial Resistance Is Normal.
a. Evangelists encounter spiritual resistance because they threaten entrenched strongholds.
b. Ephesians 6:12 KJV –– For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
c. Opposition is not a sign of failure.
d. It is a sign of confrontation.
e. When the evangelist arrives, darkness notices.
6. The Evangelist Breaks Ground for Others.
a. Evangelists often go first.
b. They confront resistance, break spiritual ground, and soften toil so others can build and disciple.
c. 1 Corinthians 3:6 KJV –– I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
d. They are pioneers, not settlers.
7. Sending Requires Backing.
a. True sending carries authority and provision.
b. Acts 13:1-2 KJV –– Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers… 2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
c. Sending involves:
- Prayer
- Confirmation
- Accountability
- Support
d. Those who are sent are not isolated; they are covered.
8. Evangelists Carry Regional Impact.
a. When evangelists preach, atmospheres change.
b. Acts 11:21 KJV –– And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
c. Crime drops.
d. Families reconcile.
e. Churches awaken.
f. Communities shift.
g. Evangelism is not loud noise; it is spiritual invasion.
9. Timing Matters as Much as Location.
a. Being sent includes when, not just where.
b. Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV –– To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.
c. Early arrival can waste effort.
d. Late arrival can miss harvest.
e. The evangelist learns to wait and then move swiftly when God speaks.
10. The Evangelist Does Not Stay Forever.
a. Evangelists move on.
b. Acts 14:21 KJV –– And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,
c. Acts 14:24-26 KJV –– And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia. 26 And thence sailed to Antioch…
d. They do not settle.
e. They do not linger.
f. They leave behind fire, converts, and momentum.
g. Staying too long can dilute urgency.
11. The Evangelist Moves by Assignment.
a. Evangelists are not driven by invitations; they are driven by obedience.
b. They go where God sends.
c. They speak what God gives.
d. They leave when God releases them.
e. And because they are sent, Heaven backs their message.
f. The evangelist is not a traveler by chance.
g. He is a messenger by command.
