Foundation Scriptures:

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7 KJV

1. God is Light.

a. This is the message which we have heard from Him and about Him.

b. This is the message we declare.

c. God is light.

d. In Him there is no darkness at all.

e. God is not a light or like light—He IS Light.

f. This means: Purity, holiness, truth, and perfect revelation.

g. James 1:17 KJV –– …with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

h. There is no darkness in Him—not even a shadow of it.

i. No sin, no deception, no evil—God is totally trustworthy.

j. God is our source of wisdom, knowledge, holiness, and truth.

k. 2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV –– For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus is the Light of the World.

a. John 1:4-5 KJV –– In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

b. That means that darkness has never overpowered the Light—never been able to put it out.

c. The unsaved world loves darkness, and lives in darkness, because their deeds are evil (John 3:19-21).

d. They won’t come to the light, because their evil deeds will be exposed.

e. But those who practice truth, love the light, and are not afraid to come into the light because they love and obey God and do what is right in His sight.

3. His Light in Me.

a. John 8:12 NKJV –– Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

b. Jesus is the light of the world to everyone who follows Him.

c. They will walk in His light.

d. They will not walk in darkness.

e. 1 Thessalonians 5:5 NKJV –– You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

f. God’s character sets the standard.

g. If He is light, then we must walk in light—not just know about it.

4. The Claim vs. The Conduct.

a. Some people claim to be in fellowship with Christ (1 John 1:6), yet their lifestyle is in contradiction to Him.

b. “Walk” = ongoing lifestyle or habitual conduct.

c. “Lie” = deception, both toward others and ourselves.

d. Truth must be lived, not just spoken.

e. “Do not the truth” = failure to practice what we preach.

f. Don’t settle for lip-service Christianity.

g. A life of darkness discredits your confession.

5. The Walk of the Believer.

a. Walking in the Light (1 John 1:7) means: Living in honesty, purity, obedience, and transparency before God.

b. The first blessing of walking in the light is fellowship with Jesus Christ and with each other.

c. Unity and love in the body of Christ thrive in light, not secrecy.

d. Amos 3:3 KJV –– Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

e. The second blessing is cleansing by the Blood of Jesus.

f. Not perfection, but forgiveness, and ongoing cleansing through confession and repentance.

g. The Blood of Jesus = not just a one-time event, but continual efficacy.

h. When we walk in the light, we’re not exposed to shame, but invited into healing and relationship with Him.

6. Walk in His Love.

a. 1 John 2:9-11 NKJV –– He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

b. Jesus said: By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35).

c. The proof that you are walking in God’s light is that you also walk in His genuine agape love toward one another.

7. Walk in His Light.

a. God is light—flawless, faithful, and holy.

b. We are called to walk in the light, not just admire it from afar.

c. Ephesians 5:8-11 AMPC –– For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light]. 9 For the fruit (the effect, the product) of the Light or the Spirit [consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life. 10 And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him]. 11 Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in contrast as to] expose and reprove and convict them.

d. Real fellowship with God requires walking in honesty, purity, and obedience.

e. The light doesn’t condemn you—it cleanses you.

f. Let His light shine in every part of your life.
