A Heart Fully Given to God

Foundation Scriptures:
1 Chronicles 29:1–28
1. The Work Is Great.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:1 KJV –– The work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
b. The work is great because it’s for the Lord.
c. It was great in scope and size and in importance.
d. They were building a Temple.
e. We ARE the temple, and we are building God’s Kingdom.
f. Anything we do for the Lord deserves our very best, and we should never treat it lightly.
g. Whatever God places in your hand—ministry, serving, giving, leadership, family, business—do it as unto the Lord.
h. Colossians 3:23 KJV –– And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.
2. With All Your Might.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:2 KJV –– Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God…
b. David was not permitted to build the Temple, but he did what God allowed him to do.
c. He refused to be offended, disappointed, or uninvolved.
d. He did not focus on what he could not do, but on what he could.
e. With all his might, he prepared the way for someone else to succeed.
f. He gave his very best to something he would never personally complete.
g. The right heart attitude says: “It does not have to be about me. It only has to be about the Kingdom.”
h. Your assignment could be to build it, to prepare for it, or to make it possible for the next generation.
3. Devoted Heart.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:3 KJV –– Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God…
b. David did not give merely because there was a need; he gave because his heart was in it.
c. Where your affection is, your treasure follows.
d. Matthew 6:21 KJV –– For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
e. David’s giving was an expression of his love for God.
f. He gave willingly, personally, generously, sacrificially, and joyfully—and he led by example.
g. It wasn’t just about the money; it was about consecration to the will and the plan of God.
h. Their offering represented their hearts and their worship.
4. Willing Heart.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:6 KJV –– Then the chief of the fathers and princes… offered willingly.
b. 1 Chronicles 29:9 KJV –– Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD…
c. God is interested not only in what we give, but how we give it.
d. 2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV –– Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
e. God does not want reluctant obedience.
f. He wants willing service, willing obedience, willing giving, willing sacrifice, and willing consecration.
g. He wants your heart before He wants what is in your hand.
h. “Perfect heart” does not mean that they never made a mistake.
i. It speaks of a heart that is whole, complete, undivided, and fully devoted.
j. God does not want half your heart; He wants your whole heart.
k. If He has your heart, then He has everything else in your life and your hand.
5. Everything Belongs to God and Comes from Him.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:11 KJV –– Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine.
b. Everything belongs to Him: Our lives; our abilities; our opportunities; our resources; our future.
c. 1 Chronicles 29:12 KJV –– Both riches and honour come of thee…
d. Promotion and provision come from God.
e. David understood that God is the Source.
f. Never allow God’s blessing to cause you to forget the One who blessed you.
g. Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV –– But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…
h. The proper response to blessing is not pride, but gratitude.
6. Who Am I?
a. 1 Chronicles 29:14 KJV –– But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort?
b. David was a king and he had wealth, authority, influence, victories, and honor.
c. Yet his humble response was: “Who am I?”
d. Success did not make David believe he was the source of his success.
e. The greater God blessed him, the more grateful he became.
7. We Only Give God What He First Gave Us.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:14 KJV –– …for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
b. This is one of the greatest principles of stewardship in Scripture.
c. Everything we give God came from God first.
d. Our time, talent, ability, strength, opportunity, resources, finances, influence, all came from Him.
e. We are not owners; we are stewards.
f. 1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV –– Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
8. Godly Legacy.
a. 1 Chronicles 29:26-28 KJV –– Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel…. And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour…
b. David’s life was not perfect, but he finished his assignment.
c. At the end of our life, what matters is not merely about what we accumulated, but if we obeyed, and if we finished our assignment.
d. It is about what we gave, what we built, whom we prepared, and what we left behind.
e. A life fully surrendered to God leaves a godly legacy.
