The Promise of Long Life

Foundation Scripture:
With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation. Psalm 91:16 AMPC
1. Long Life, A Covenant Promise.
a. Long life is not a random blessing—it’s a covenant promise from God.
b. He promises to extend the days of our life.
c. And to give us a life enriched and satisfying in both length and quality.
d. He promises to protect us and cause us to experience His salvation, deliverance, welfare, prosperity, and victory.
e. God’s intention is not that we live short, sickly, fearful, or unfulfilled lives, but that we live long, fruitful, peaceful, and blessed lives that bring glory to Him.
2. Long Life Promised to the Righteous.
a. Proverbs 3:1–2 KJV –– My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
b. Exodus 23:25–26 KJV –– And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee… the number of thy days I will fulfil.
c. Long life is added to the one who walks in wisdom, obedience, and reverence, and keeps God’s Word.
3. Long Life Promised to Those Who Honor.
a. Ephesians 6:2–3 KJV –– Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
b. Honor brings longevity.
c. To dishonor is to invite decay and early destruction.
d. Proverbs 10:27 AMPC –– The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord prolongs one’s days, but the years of the wicked shall be made short.
e. When we walk in the fear of the Lord, our days are lengthened because we align our lives with the principles of life itself.
f. Respecting authority, walking in love, and living peaceably contribute to a long and healthy life.
4. The Promise of Quality as Well as Quantity.
a. Psalm 92:12–14 KJV –– The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon… They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.
b. The Lord doesn’t just promise long years; He promises strong years.
c. Deuteronomy 34:7 KJV –– And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.
d. God can renew your youth like the eagle (Ps. 103:5).
e. The righteous don’t retire from purpose; they refire in faith.
f. Caleb said at 85, “I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me” (Josh. 14:11).
5. Long Life Activated by Walking in Wisdom and Peace.
a. Proverbs 9:10–11 KJV –– The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom… For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
b. Length of days is in her (Wisdom’s) right hand (Pr. 3:16).
c. Isaiah 26:3 KJV –– Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.
d. Worry and strife shorten life, but peace and faith extend it.
e. A heart free from fear, bitterness, and unbelief is a heart that lives long.
f. God’s Word brings health to your flesh and life to your bones (Pr. 4:20–22).
6. Long Life is a Testimony of God’s Faithfulness.
a. God’s faithful servants lived out their full days and saw His goodness.
b. Genesis 25:8 KJV –– Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
c. “Full of years” means nothing left unfulfilled—no assignment unfinished, no blessing unrealized.
d. Job 42:16–17 KJV –– After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.
e. The same God who gave Abraham, Moses, and Job long life will satisfy you too.
7. Jesus Gives Long and Abundant Life.
a. John 10:10b KJV –– I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
b. Through Christ, we have received eternal life and divine health as part of our redemption.
c. 2 Timothy 1:10 KJV –– …our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
d. Death has lost its sting, and we live under the covenant of life.
e. Eternal life begins now; the God-kind of life working in you daily.
8. Walk in the Promise of Long Life.
a. Abide in Christ—stay close to Him who is Life itself (John 15:5).
b. Speak Life—words of blessing, not fear.
c. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
d. Walk in Love—bitterness and hatred poison the spirit; but love brings healing.
e. Live in Joy and Gratitude—a merry heart does good like medicine (Pr. 17:22).
f. Honor God with Your Body—you are His temple so steward your health accordingly (1 Cor. 6:19–20).
9. A Long, Fruitful, and Blessed Life.
a. God’s will for you is not just quantity of days, but quality of life—peace, health, joy, purpose, and fruitfulness.
b. You can confidently declare: “I will live long. I will live strong. I will live satisfied. I will live to see His salvation.”
c. Declaration of Faith: “Father, I thank You for the promise of long life. I declare that the number of my days You will fulfill. I will live long on the earth, strong in spirit, sound in body, fruitful in every season, and satisfied with Your salvation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
